SENIOR DESIGNER

What training do you have that helps in your current role?

I started out as an apprentice sales associate at a high street jewellery retailer, where I gained valuable customer experience and learned the basics of the jewellery world. From there, I then worked on the busy repairs counter at a traditional family jewellers, which gave me a huge insight into the technical workings of jewellery.

How long have you worked in the jewellery industry?

I started at Jessica Flinn Fine Jewellery over three years ago now. I’ve managed to progress so quickly in the company already, working my way from a sales role into design. In a workplace where your talents are nurtured and you’re encouraged to grow, it was an easy transition from sales into product design. I’ve definitely found my dream career!

Tell me about how it is working in your team

Our team is extremely collaborative and my colleagues are incredibly helpful with their insights and suggestions. Each department communicates effectively with one another to ensure that we all know what collections we have in the works, how these will be marketed, and what other products our customers may be requesting, etc.

What is the best thing about your job?

I absolutely love having the creative freedom to showcase my designs! Especially if I’m given a particularly challenging brief… I enjoy researching different eras of jewellery styles throughout history to take inspiration from and adapt in my own way. I then create 2D designs showing the pieces from all angles to pitch to Jessica, before passing these on to Charlotte, our CAD designer once approved to get those final 3D renders.

What has been a career highlight for you?

Definitely winning an award last year at the Professional Jeweller Awards! I was presented with the Young Jewellery Designer of the Year 2022, and it was an absolutely amazing feeling. It still doesn’t feel real… I’ve worked so hard to get here, there’s no stopping me now!

What's your favourite piece and why?

We've just released a new bracelet which I love, I think it's so versatile and pretty much suits everybody

I have worked in the jewellery industry for a total of 4 years and I have been in my current role for just over a year. I've enjoyed every moment of my time at Jessica Flinn and can't wait to continue my work here!
